Drug name: Generic Zoloft (sertraline)
Therapeutic effects:
Zoloft is an antidepressant, a specific inhibitor of the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) in neurons. It has very little effect on the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine. In therapeutic doses it inhibits the reuptake of serotonin in human platelets. Zoloft has no stimulating, sedative or anticholinergic effects. The drug does not cause dependence and weight gain during long-term administration.
Indications:
- Depression of various etiologies, prevention of depression recurrence
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia)
- Social phobia
- Posttraumatic stress disorder
